Some of what Watson says gets Holmes thinking about how advantageous it would be to move to the bed, where it wouldn't be cramped and where they would fall asleep before their limbs do. He has no idea how Watson might take to that idea though Holmes truly has no ulterior motives, just a desire for comfort and intimacy.
