oh god this series
This series is insane.
The year is 1914. Holmes has retired and is covered in bees

Watson visits him regularly. He had a really very nice motorcycle with sidecar for Holmes to ride in in the episode previous to this.

However, in this, the last episode, he's traded it in for a car.

He parks like a crazy man.

But! He still gives Holmes rides in it. Yes, you're really just going to have to take my word for it that it's Holmes on the right. Really.

After Mrs. Hudson's death (woe) 221b Baker street has become some sort of... empty building, staffed by this guy and his eyebrow, but he doesn't mind temporarily abandoning whatever he does the rest of time to play errand boy for Holmes.

Lestrade is moved by the villain's tale and cries.

Holmes ignores all sense of personal space when it comes to Watson (uh, nothing new there).

And he runs around in a really excellent disguise a whole lot, which does not in the least make him look like a beat poet.

Mrs. Hudson IS NOT IN FACT DEAD but is instead a cunning spy for the British government, with amazing disguise skills and much leetness!

And Watson maintains a really strong and lasting relationship with his wife, which he does by never talking to her ever and actively ignoring her repeated attempts at talking to him until it becomes clear that that thing Mary's waving around in his face is a telegram from Holmes, at which point he drops everything and heads off to see him. Seriously, this is just depressing. Poor Mary.

However, it's pretty clear where his actual affection lies, when "phoning brother Mycroft" turns into excited hugging.

It starts out with Watson talking into the phone while Holmes holds it, and Holmes throws his arm around Watson's shoulder to pull him closer while he does that. And then Holmes takes the receiver back and they just stay like that. For forty seconds of screentime. Which is actually a lot of screentime to just stand there cuddling.

I would say MARY/EYEBROW except Mary deserves more than Eyebrow.
