César returns that kiss because he can't help it.

"I did. A leather chair and patience. It should make carrying around your pipe and everything that goes with it so much easier."

As much as César isn't into smoking, he hated seeing Watson juggle around with something unorganized through no fault of his own.

"Considering how much trouble it is to have such a vice on this ship, I appreciate it. It is a lovely little bit of work, though. Also, I appreciate this," and Watson holds up the embroidered "fuck" on the wrapping cloth, laughing.

César has a long moment of laughter himself. "I almost forgot about that! Nothing like embroidering an angry expletive to make you feel better after you mess up. But I'm glad you like them both."

"I do. I love that you went to such an effort. Goodness, another man who sews, what a treasure I've found."

There's some self-deprecation there, but it's in good humour. "I am completely at a loss for embroidery, love, did I tell you that? Unless I take the opportunity to learn now."

César brightens enormously at the compliments, nevermind the self-deprecation. "I really glad you love it."

A laugh. "You didn't tell me, but it's not a common skill for men, so I assumed. But I'd be happy to teach you so you can stitch curse words to your heart's content! It's very therapeutic."

He laughs, a low chuckle. "Perhaps I will, if I feel the need, though I think I do tend towards the practical in this regard. It does turn out that a surgeon's skills adapt easily to a torn hem, but I've never turned them to anything artistic."

"Now's the time to try something artistic if you never had the chance." César shifts around a bit until he can get a hand up to stroke along Watson's jaw. "But you're good as you are now. Practical skills will never be out of style."
