It's mid-afternoon, and Johnny has been freshly brutalized by Sarge. Alright, that's an exaggeration, but the two of them have been ramping up the intensity of their self-defense sessions, which means Johnny's a little more like overcooked pasta when he returns home. His plan: a long hot shower, and then perhaps to take a nap before dinner.

What he's not counting on: Watson being home.

One morning, Watson comes down to the infirmary to see Murderbot doing inventory on the drugs in stock. It's quiet, head down.

This is, ultimately, an unnecessary task. Nothing's run out yet, nothing ever will. But it's restless and needs to feel like something is being accomplished. Call it anxious.

(there will be a letter addressed to watson on the floor outside of his cabin.)

Six arrived. We worked some things out. He told me that I was wrong. That Rex doesn't hate me, that he keeps talking about me. What happened had been... Rex being a teenager and not understanding how much he scared me. If you see a man wearing sunglasses and a green suit, that's Six. Please be courteous to him. He was the one who made sure I knew the truth about how Rex feels.

César manages to get Watson alone for a short while on his birthday. Stuff has... happened. A lot of stuff, to be honest. But it's still Watson's birthday. He walks up to him and presses a rolled up, wrapped present into Watson's hand. It's wrapped up in some extra fabric on which he obviously was practicing embroidering Watson's full name, like it is on the fabric. Even if fabric and leather are different. There might even be a single 'fuck' angrily embroidered ineloquently after a nearly perfect line.

Seems Johnny was right about César having a needle in hand.

"Happy birthday, dear." César kisses him gently on the lips.

It’s one of those nights where it’s just Johnny and Watson in Cabin 102. It’s been a long day, and they’re not particularly planning on anything sexy tonight. Spooning, perhaps.

Johnny had received a couple packages from Sundries earlier that day—the orange blossom wreath he’s hidden and one with some sort of burnt-out lightbulb inside, that he doesn’t understand the meaning of. Yet. But that was hours ago, with no ill effect, and he hadn’t seen fit to tell Watson about it at all.

[ Late in the evening, a piece of black paper is slid under Watson's door. There's no words or signature on it, but there is a crude drawing of a gallows and several blanks in a row: ]

Erin knocks on Watson's cabin door. In her nervousness and frustration she defaults to the barber-surgeon's knock ("Shave with a haircut - no legs!"), her usual Quick Secret Knock for trouble.

Then she realizes and drags her hand down her face.

"Doctor Watson?" she calls out. "I really did not want to bother Johnny during his time of...this whole time, and then I had to, and I don't want to bother you either but you might be the only living thing on this ship that can fucking sew. Can I get a minute of your time?"

There's a comic book in her free hand. A picture in it is badly but heavily circled.

A pair of shoe organizers made from cloth clearly pillaged from the ship, currently stuffed with a selection of candy as well as fruit-flavored cigars, are left in front of the throuple's door. In lieu of a note, a small wooden blossom - an amaranth - has been placed atop the gift.

so when Watson opens the door, he'll find a happy, excursion-themed gift basket. there's a variety of treats and memorabilia, including an extremely tasteful sign, a tin of mints, and some other odds and ends from the gift stores at the lodge ~~that are entirely up to you to pick out~~. there's also a note that reads, "GET ALIVE SOON!" signed by Pratt and Sharky themselves.

César walks in on the open bathroom door as Watson is halfway to buttoning up his shirt. "Oh, let me help you!"

With a mischievous grin, César reaches his arms around Watson from behind and tries to do just that. Except he has to pause for a moment to kiss that space between neck and shoulder before it's covered. Ulterior motives, perhaps.

[After Rich is convinced to let César spend some time with him.]

I'm worried about Rich. He's trying to make himself 'small' and not be a bother when it's clearly he's having a hard time with everything that's happened.

César forgot how much he loved fireplaces until they had one again. He brings his backpack of tea supplies over as he joins Watson by the fire.

"Would you like some tea, my dear?" César asks with a warm smile.
